Bob Lutz to Retire from GM at Year’s End – Car News – Car and Driver
General Motors announced today that Bob Lutz will transition from his current role as vice chairman of global product development to one of an advisor reporting to CEO Rick Wagoner. The change will take effect April 1, after which Lutz will retire from the company at the end of 2009. Lutz will turn 77 on February 12.
This isn’t the first time Lutz has made a retirement-induced exit from an automaker; his departure from Chrysler just before that company’s merger with Daimler in 1998 was his first attempt. Read the rest of this entry »
2009 Mini Cooper Convertible – Short Take Road Test – Auto Reviews – Car and Driver
The sticker on this Mini Cooper convertible reads $32,050. That’s without an S; no John Cooper Works package, either. It’s a heap of dough for a softtop version of Mini’s cute coupe.
The driving experience gets a hard knock for copious amounts of cowl shake—likely a result of sawing off the roof—and the power verges on anemic. Nonetheless, the chassis is still willing to be tossed around, just not with the same eagerness for which the coupe is heralded.
Just like the regular Cooper, this second-gen convertible gets more power. For the base, naturally aspirated car, the engine gained variable valve lift and added an eensy four horsepower, totaling 118. Torque is up an equal amount, to 114 pound-feet. But the power gain is not enough.
Is Honda Returning to Its Sports Car Roots?
At a press conference in early February, Honda CEO Takanobu Ito shocked the world’s media when he nonchalantly revealed plans to launch a detuned production version of the V8-powered HSV-010 race car. Of course, he was referring to a road-going variant of the NSX successor project, which was shelved several years ago.
